Use

You can use this monitor to search files for the occurrence of text patterns of your choice. This is done using an SAP NetWeaver management agent that takes the required information about which text pattern it should search for in which files from one or more configuration files.

Integration

Since the search for the text patterns is performed by an agent, this agent must be installed and active on the host that contains the desired file (or at least on a host from which it can access the desired file).

Prerequisites

You must have created the configuration files (log file templates) that contain the information about the log files to be monitored and the text patterns for which the agent is to search (see Central Monitoring of Files ).

Features

The monitor creates a subtree for every monitored file.

Note
  • The name of the subtree corresponds to the name of the monitored file; depending on the configuration, possible extended by a prefix that you set in the monitoring configuration file (more information: Defining the Node Properties for File Monitoring ). In this way, you can differentiate in the monitor between different files with the same name that you are monitoring.
  • The MTE class consists of the value of the parameter MTE_CLASS(by default, CcmsFile<Dateiname>, more information: Defining the Node Properties for File Monitoring ) and the suffix specified in the table.

Each subtree consists, at most, of the following monitoring tree elements (MTEs):

MTE (Suffix MTE class) Meaning Configuration Information

Complete Name (.ComplPath)

Complete name including file path of the monitored file from the point of view of the monitoring agent

Note

You can also display the content of the monitored files in the Alert Monitor. To do this, double-click the Complete Name attribute in which the name of the monitored file is displayed.

Select the Files that Are to Be Monitored

File Existence (.FileExists)

Specifies whether a file exists that matches the file name for which you are searching; the status attribute is only created if the parameter CHECK_EXISTENCE_ONLY is set in the log file template

Info[<Name>] (.ApplInfo)

Text attribute showing the search pattern without any alert value

Select the File Content that Is to Be Monitored

Monitored Patterns (.Patterns)

Search pattern with alert value; you can monitor a file for multiple search patterns (the system displays these in the monitor separated by |)

Lines found for pattern (.MatchingL)

Lines of the file that match the search pattern

Data Collection Check (.MatchingL)

Time at which the file was last checked; this status attribute always has the status green; if the file is not currently bewing monitored (more information: Select the Time Periods for File Monitoring ), this is also shown in this attribute

New Lines in Log File (.NewLines)

Growth of the monitored file in lines per minute; this attribute is created only if you specify the parameter SHOWNEWLINES in the log file template

Matches for "<pattern>" (.Match.<pattern>)

Number of places where the search pattern <pattern>, for which the parameter CUMULATIVE_ALERT_THRESHOLD_<n> is set, has been found

File Time Stamp (.TimeStamp)

Time of the last change of the monitored file; this attribute is only created if you specify the parameter MONITOR_LAST_FILE_MODIF in the log file template

Select the General File Properties that Are to Be Monitored

File Age (.FileAge)

Number of minutes since the last change of the monitored file; this attribute is only created if you specify the parameter MONITOR_FILE_AGE_MINUTES in the log file template

Log File Size (.FileSize)

Size of the file; the attribute is only created if the parameter MONITOR_FILESIZE_KB or MONITOR_FILESIZE_BELOW_KBis set in the log file template

Template File (.Template)

Name of the log file template for the corresponding subtree; to display the content of the template, double-click the attribute

Structure of the Log File Templates for Monitoring Files

TimeFrameConfigFile (.TimeFrames)

Name of the configuration file for monitoring time periods for the corresponding subtree (the attribute is only created if the parameter TIME_FRAME_CONFIG_FILE is set); to display the content of the template, double-click the attribute

Select the Time Periods for the File Monitoring
