Source SystemLocate this document in the navigation structure

Definition

All systems that provide BW with data are referred to as source systems. These can be:

  1. SAP systems (with service API)
  2. BW systems
  3. Flat files that metadata is maintained for manually and is transferred to BW using a file interface
  4. Database management systems that data is loaded into from a database supported by SAP using DB Connect, without using an external extraction program
  5. Relational sources that are connected to BW using UD Connect
  6. Web Services that transfer data to BW by push
  7. Third-party systems with data and metadata transfer by staging BAPIs that can be implemented by SAP BusinessObjects DataServices or another certified third-party provider

You define source systems in the Data Warehousing Workbench in the source system tree. To define a source system, choose Create in the context menu for the folder in the source system type.

Integration

DataSources are used to extract and stage data from source systems. The DataSources divide the data provided by a source system into self-contained business areas.
