Purpose

The Integration Engineenables you to process XML messagesexchanged between applications in heterogeneous system landscapes. Both applications of SAP components and external applications can communicate with the Integration Engine.

For more information about configuring the individual adapters, see:

  • Configuring the IDoc Adapter

With the IDoc adapter the Integration Engine can process IDocs (Intermediate Documents).

  • Configuring the HTTP Adapter

With the RFC adapter the Integration Engine can process RFCs (Remote Function Calls).

  • Configuring the XI Adapter

With the XI adapter the Integration Engine can be connected with other Integration Engines (using the XI 3.0 protocol).

  • Configuring the Channel with Adapter Type WS

With a WS channel the Integration Engine can be connected with Web service providers or Web service consumers.

    Note

Using IDoc and RFC adapters is available for applications that have already defined IDocs or RFCs, as well as for applications of SAP components that do not yet have access to the proxy generation functions.

Integration

The Integration Engine is a runtime environment of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI). The processes involved can take place between heterogeneous system components within a company, as well as between business partners outside company boundaries.

Features

As a PI runtime component, the Integration Engine has the task of receiving, processing and forwarding XML messages. During message processing, the sender agreements and receiver agreements are evaluated, the receiver is determined, and the mapping activities are executed.

The individual processing steps are called pipeline services and are defined in pipelines. It is the task of the Integration Engine to process these pipelines correctly and consistently. To guarantee this, you must configurethe Integration Engine accordingly and monitorthe message processing. Event-Driven Message Processing, Prioritized Message Processingand Message Packagingare all possible.
