Export and Import of Properties and MetadataLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can use this function to copy properties and metadata that you have defined in one system to another system. You can export the configuration of properties and metadata from one system in an XML file and import this file to another system.

Features

The starting point for each export is properties, that is, you select the property that you want to export. The system collects all referenced objects (groups, metadata extensions, namespaces, property renderers, and so on) and writes these objects to an XML file.

During the import, all objects contained in the XML file are imported to the target system, provided they do not already exist there.

Activities

Exporting Properties and Metadata

You are in the Content Management configuration.

  1. Choose Global Services → Property Metadata → Properties.
  2. Select one or more properties and choose Export.

    You see the following links:

    • Export File: XML file that describes the properties and metadata.
    • Report: the log file contains information about whether the export was successful, the number of exported objects, and a list of exported objects.
  3. Save the XML file and the log file to your local hard disk. To do this, click the links with the secondary mouse button and choose Save As in the context menu. The system does not store these files in a KM folder.

Importing Properties and Metadata

You are in the Content Management configuration.

  1. Choose Global Services → Property Metadata → Properties.
  2. Choose Import.
  3. Alongside the entry field Meta Data File, click Browse and select the XML file on your local PC that you exported from the other system.
  4. Choose OK.
  5. The system displays two lists:
    • To be added: These objects are contained in the XML file and do not yet exist in the target system. These objects are definitely imported. You cannot change this list.
    • To be modified: These objects are contained in the XML file and there are objects in the target system with the same ID, but other settings. There is a conflict here that you have to solve manually.

Decide how the system should handle these objects:

      • The selected objects are imported. They overwrite the objects in the target system.
      • The objects that are not selected are not imported.
  6. Choose OK.
Result

A link to a log file appears. This contains information about whether the import was successful, which objects were imported, and which objects were already available in identical form.

Because the system does not store the log file in a KM folder, you should save it for later reference on your local PC.
