Making Snapshots of the Data AreaLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You create a snapshot to save the current state of the data area in the database. For example, you can use a snapshot when working on a training computer to quickly restore the database to its original state after training has finished and without having to carry out a complete restore of the database.

Caution

A snapshot is not a data backup. The system saves the snapshot on the same hard disk as your data area. To be able to restore your data after a hardware error, you have to back up data and logs regularly (see Backing Up Data).

Prerequisites
  • You are logged on to the database as the database system administrator or as a DBM operator (see Glossary, Server Permission).

  • The database is in the ONLINE operational state.

Procedure
  1. Select the database in the explorer tree.

  2. In the context menu of the database, choose Administration.

  3. Open the Snapshots tab page.

  4. Choose Create...

You can perform database structure checks on a specified snapshot. Choose the snapshot from the Snapshots tab page and start the database structure check selecting Check....
