Use

The VM Overview(transaction SM52) provides an overview of the status of the Java virtual machines (VMs) in the VM Container(VMC) on the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (AS). It also allows you to manage the VM Container and the individual VMs at runtime.

Integration

The VM overview refers to the SAP instance you are logged on to. You can monitor and manage the Java VMs that share the work processes in this instance.

Features

The VM Overviewprovides an overview and details of the VMs in the VM Container. The settings and current values of the individual VMs are displayed in a table.

The menu functions allow you to change the various VM properties.

The initial screen of the VM Overview(transaction SM52 or SAP menu Start of the navigation path Administration Next navigation step System Administration Next navigation step Monitor Next navigation step System Monitoring Next navigation step VM Overview End of the navigation path) shows an ALV control with a header areas and table body.

You can configure the list display. Choose Start of the navigation path List Next navigation step Configure End of the navigation path. You can edit the layout as follows:

  • Show or hide header area

  • Show or hide VMs of certain types

  • Hide VMs depending on Status

  • Determine occupation and allocation limits for memory.

Three transaction-specific menus in the menu bar allow you to carry out administrative tasks on the VMC, the VMs, and the application programs you are running. You can also branch to other transactions from here.

Header Area

The header area contains general information on the VM Container:

  • Status of the VM Container

  • Garbage collection of the shared memory ( Shared GC)

  • Memory consumption of the VM Container ( used/allocated): for individual areas, total, and percentage

  • Any Errors That Occurred

table body

Table body The table on the overview screen shows the list of VMs currently instantiated, and for each VM details of its current status, work process assignment, VM usage type, user, executed program, as well as other technical information.

Menu Functions

The menu consists of the functions VMC, Edit, Goto, List, System, and Help.

The first three are used for administrative tasks for the VMC, the VMs, and the application programs you are running. You can also go to other transactions from here.
