Activate BC SetsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

BC Sets can only be activated if there is no production client in the system.

Procedure

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Customizing Next navigation step Business Configuration Sets Next navigation step Activation End of the navigation path in the SAP menu, or enter the transaction code SCPR20 in the command field.

  2. Enter the name of the BC Set which you want to activate.

  3. Choose Start of the navigation path Bus.Conf.Set Next navigation step Activate End of the navigation path or the Activate pushbutton.

  4. The following Activation Options dialog gives you information about the activation. The Activation Options dialog contains all activation-relevant information. There is no longer a Simulation function pushbutton. The simulation is implicit, that is, any problem messages are shown in the Messages field in the Activation Options dialog.

    Note

    To simulate an activation:

    • Choose a BC Set in the activation transaction (SCPR20).

    • Choose the Activate pushbutton or the menu path BC Set→Activate

    • If the BC Set contains variable values, you are prompted for them. Enter the values and confirm your entries with the Copy Values pushbutton.

    • Choose the Cancel with Log pushbutton in the following activation option dialog.

    Result:

The message Activation Simulated appears in the status row.

You can see the activation simulation log with the Activation Log pushbutton.

  5. The dialog also tells you the:

    • Activator

    • Activation date

    • Source System

    • Target system

    • Target client

    • System request

    • Customizing request

    • Activation links

    • Activation languages

  6. You can:

Overwrite data: You can specify whether default values are to be overwritten by the activation, i.e. whether all the values of the BC Set are written into the system tables by the activation (possibly overwriting values in the system tables), or only the values with the fix attribute are overwritten.

    Example

In this way, you can overwrite only the global values from company headquarters, without affecting the local default values, in a global rollout with BC Sets.

Select activation mode: If you have the required authorization, you can activate in expert mode. For further information about authorizations, see SAP Note 669542.

  7. Enter the transport request number when asked for a Customizing transport request and choose Continue.

    Note

If the BC Set contains non-customizing-relevant data, for example, master data, you are prompted for two transport requests. Enter both numbers and choose

  8. Continue. If some fields in a BC Set are defined as Variable, the Enter Variables dialog box appears. All fields which were given the Variable ( Get Value) attribute when the BC Set was created, and are flagged with this icon in the table, are listed here. If several data records in one of these fields have the same values, the name of this field only appears once in the dialog box. The Value column contains the default values. If the values are different for each data record, the default value is displayed in the Value column for each data record. You can overwrite proposed values and choose Copy Values.

    Note

One default value is usually the current value of the BC Set. If the user has already changed the value, the last value entered is proposed.

    Note

If there are short texts for the data records in the Variable Field Text tab, they appear at activation in the Value column instead of the original field names.

  9. A warning that original tables are overwritten by activation of BC Sets appears. Choose one of the following three options:

    • To proceed with the activation, choose Activation.

      Note

If several BC Sets are being activated, only those which have not yet sent an error message are activated.

    • To simulate activation, choose Simulation.

      Note

Simulation tests part of the activation procedure and creates an activation log. The log tells the user whether the simulated activation reached a certain point. A successful simulation does not guarantee the success of a subsequent activation. The errors in a simulation would occur during activation.

      Note

Simulations write no data in customizing tables or transports.

    • To cancel the activation, choose Cancel.

  10. The system checks for key conflicts in the BC Set.

Key conflicts occur if there are two data records in a hierarchical BC Set with the same key but different values. In this case it is not clear which of the values is to be put in the original tables. The activation is cancelled if key conflicts occur.

Activation logs

The changed data records are recorded in activation logs. This log shows whether the activation was successful or not. You can see the log with the Display Log pushbutton in the transaction SCPR20. There are two possible ways of doing this:

  1. If the entry field is empty, you can select which activation logs are to be displayed using a selection screen.

  2. If there is a BC Set name in the input field, all activation logs for this BC Set are displayed.

    Note

You can print the activation log as documentation. All activation logs are written to the database and you can access them later.

    Note

You can also call activation logs directly in the SAP menu. Choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Customizing Next navigation step Business Configuration Sets Next navigation step Logging End of the navigation path.

Prerequisites

You have selected a BC Set, whose activation information you want to see.

Procedure

All activation logs for the selected BC Set are listed, with the activation date and time. To read a log:

  1. Double-click on the activation whose log you want to see.

    • The log header contains general activation information

      • Activator

      • Activation date and time

      • Source System

      • Target system and client

      • The transport requests generated by the activation.

  2. All messages generated by the activation are listed in the Messages section.

    Note

You can expand the structure to the customizing objects, in the list of activation logs, if you are interested in a particular object in the activation of a large BC Set. If you double-click on an object, you only get the messages about the activation of this object in the Messages section.
