Saving Long Texts as a Raw or Active VersionLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

When a translated object is saved in transaction SE63, its status is set automatically to translated. Texts translated in the long text editor can contain a large number of units to be translated, which means this function could result in a long text object having the status translated even though half the text has not been translated yet.

To avoid this situation, the long text editor makes a distinction between saving a raw and active version.

  • If you save a raw version of your translation, the status of the long text object does not change to translated. The long text object therefore remains in the worklist.
  • The status translated is not set until you save your translation as an active version. The long text object can then be transported and translated into third languages.
Prerequisites

You must keep saving the translation of your long text object as a raw version until the following criteria have been satisfied:

  • You have translated the entire long text.
  • You have checked that the long text no longer contains any of the source text.
  • You have checked the references contained in the object, and ensured that they function correctly.
Features

If you save a text as a raw version, the status of the object does not change.

After you have completed the translation of your long text object in accordance with the criteria listed above, you can choose Save Active to save the long text as an active version. The long text object then has the status translated. If a raw version exists, it is deleted when you save an active version. You can call up an actively saved object again, change the translation, and save a new active version. It is not possible to reset the status translated. It is not possible to change an actively saved version back to a raw version.

Activities

To save a long text as a raw version, choose Object → Save as a Raw Version, or the  icon in the menu bar, or the  icon in the target language window.

To save a long text as an active version, choose Object → Save Active, or the  icon.

If you exit the long text editor by choosing Back (F3), the Exit Editor dialog box appears, asking you if you want to save the current version. You have the following options:

  • Save the text as an active version: choose Yes, actively.
  • Save the text as a raw version: choose Yes, raw.
  • Reject the changes: choose No.
  • Cancel the activity: choose Cancel.

If you call up a long text object for which a raw version exists, the Raw Version Found dialog box appears. You can choose to use, ignore, delete, or display the raw version.

To delete a raw version that you have called up for editing, choose Edit → Delete Raw Version.
