Scheduling an ActionLocate this document in the navigation structure

  1. To add new actions, you can use one of the following options:
    1. Double-click a calendar cell.
    2. Position the cursor on a calendar cell and choose Add.
    3. Drag and drop an action from the action pad into a calendar cell.

You can also use drag and drop to move actions within the calendar. If you want to copy an action, keep the CTRL key pressed while using drag and drop.

A dialog box appears with all detail data on an action.

  2. If you chose option a or b, you can select the action you want to schedule from the group box Action Description. In the Planned Start field, you can enter date and time when the action is to start. If you are entering an action for today and want to start the action immediately, choose Execute.
  3. If you chose option c, the corresponding action is already listed as default.

The parameters for the required action are displayed under Action Parameters. They can vary depending on the action.

  4. On the Action Parameters tab strip, change or enter the basic parameters for the action.
  5. If you want to schedule the action as a recurring action, on the Recurrence tab strip, enter a recurrence pattern.
    Parameter Description

    Recurrence Pattern

Interval for the action in weeks, days or hours. Depending on the selected recurrence pattern, you need to specify the pattern in more detail, which is the days of the week for weeks and the hours of the day for a daily period. The action is repeated at the interval you enter. If you select Once only, the action is executed only once

    RecurrenceRange

Range of time where the action recurs, that is for a specific time interval or a limited number of occurrences. For hourly recurring jobs, the start time is the time selected by the user, the end-time, however, is always 23:59:59 in SQL Server.

    Note

The system warns you if there is a conflict with an existing action, but it does not prevent you from inserting the new action. It is your responsibility to decide whether the actions would collide in terms of database access or performance. The underlying collision check does not check for actions with identical start times, but checks for actions within a range of approximately 30 minutes.

  6. The Preview tab strip shows the SQL statements to be executed in the SQL Server for this job based on the current selection of the parameters. If you change the parameters, you can select the Preview tab strip to view the SQL statements that are executed for the new selection of parameters.
  7. To schedule the action, choose Add.
    Caution

Make sure that you schedule your backups in an SAP system from one application only. If you schedule backups from multiple applications, for example, the Planning Calendar from the local system, the Planning Calendar from a central system, the SQL Server Management Studio or third party backup tools, these backups break the backup sequence of the system. Therefore initially plan the backup procedure and application from which the backups jobs are scheduled on your SAP system.
