Permissions determine who is allowed to use an index for searching and who is allowed to maintain an index.

Allows you to search an index. When end users carry out a search, the system searches only those indexes for which they have read permission. Moreover, the search options display only those indexes for which the end user in question has read permission. Caution
If you do not set up permissions for an index, all users are able to search it. If you have access to the Index Administration iView, you can display the index (properties and data sources). |

Allows you to make the following changes to an index:

You need permissions for the /taxonomies repository if you want to create taxonomies or change settings for taxonomies in Index Administration.

You set permissions for indexes in the Index Administration iView. To do so, click on the name of an index, and then choose Permissions .
You set permissions for taxonomies in the /taxonomies repository, for example, in the Repositories or Taxonomy Explorer iView.
