License Administration Workbench

The License Administration Workbench (LAW) uses a new data model, which now has a unique key for each system. This means that you can now easily use LAW to administer systems with the same names, the names of which consist of system ID, hardware key, and installation number. The following functions are available in the License Administration Workbench:

• You can group users across multiple levels (see Grouping Users Using Multiple Levels )

• You can change the size of the Control LAW box.

• You can now record your comments on the measurement data by choosing  Edit  Attachment to Measurement Data  .

• You can copy existing RFC destinations of the SAP Solution Manager 4.0 into the LAW (see Copying RFC Destinations of the SAP Solution Manager 7.0 ).

Flexible License Mechanism

New

The flexible license mechanism extends the previous license procedure in such a way that the license for a system is no longer connected to the hardware for a message server. This means that the license remains valid, even if you move the message server to another server. This is primarily important for high-availability environments and for Adaptive Computing, since systems and system components often have to be moved between servers in these situations.

License Administration at Operating System Level

New

You can use the program saplikey to set up, check, and administer the digitally-signed license key in your AS ABAP system at operating system level. The program resides in the directory /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/exe/run.

You can use the saplikey program as an alternative to transaction SLICENSE. You can essentially perform the same functions using this command line program as with transaction SLICENSE. The advantage of the saplikey program is that only the database needs to be operating, and not the system, to import a valid license key into the database, for example. System Measurement

With the measurement program (transaction USMM), you can ascertain the number of users and chargeable objects of engines of the SAP software for each system. As preparation for this, you need to classify all users of your systems into user types.

The following functions are available to you in the current release for this purpose:

• New User List: The new user list simplifies the work of the administrator since it combines the simple and extended user list (see also Classifying Users with the User List ).

• Role-Based License Classification: With role-based license classification, you can assign a contractual user type to selected key roles. If you then assign these roles to a user, the user automatically receives the contractual user type of the role (see also Setting Up Role-Based License Classification ).
