Technical Information for Short TextsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The short text editor enables you to display technical information for each line in the object that is currently open. Put the mouse pointer on the required line and choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Technical Information. End of the navigation path

.

The system displays the Technical Information window. You see technical data as well as information on the status of the object in the translation workflow. Any changes you make since the worklist was accessed are recorded, which enables you to make comparisons. This information can be useful if you need to ask your developers questions about a specific object, or if you want to check the current translation status.

Features

The Object group box contains the following technical information:

Object Name

The technical name of the object that contains the source text currently being translated.

Description

The description of the object.

Key

The technical key for the line. This key is generated dynamically for many object types, such as all tables. This means it changes every time you call up the object.

Text Lengths

Information on the text length of the selected line:

  • Maximum : Specifies the maximum possible text length for the translation line.

  • Current/UC : Current displays the length of the translation that is currently in the translation line. UC displays the length that the translation would have if it were transported to a non-Unicode translation system.

Object Type

The shortcut for the object type, such as DTEL for a data element.

Original Language

The original language of the object to be translated.

Note

In translation, the source language is not necessarily the same as the original language. For example, if your development language is German, but Japanese is translated from English, the system displays the following technical information:

Original language: deDE

Source language: enUS

Collection/Type

The collection to which the object belongs, and the ID of the technical environment from which the collection originates, such as R for ABAP.

Translation Area

The translation area from which the object originates.

Name

Name of the collection

Domain/Type

The domain to which the object belongs.

ID of the technical environment from which the domain originates, such as R for ABAP.

Name

Name of the domain

Contact Person

The user name of the person responsible for the object.

Last Changed By

The user name of the person who last changed the object, together with the date on and time at which the object was last changed.

The Workflow group box contains the target language. The Current group box contains the source language and object status.

The object status applies to the entire object. The statuses are:

D: The object was deleted.

M: The object has modified status.

N: The object has new status.

T: The object has translated status.

In the Lines group box, the Total field provides information on the total number of lines in the object. The New field contains the number of untranslated lines in the object. The Modified field contains the number of modified lines in the object.

The Worklist group box contains the following information:

  • The number of the worklist that contains the object

  • Reservation number

  • User name of the person who has reserved the object in a worklist

  • Source language of the object in the worklist

  • Status of object in worklist. The four statuses described above - D (deleted), M (modified), N (new), and T (translated) - also apply here.

  • The total number of lines in the object in the worklist, and the number of untranslated and modified lines in the object.

To make it easier when communicating with developers, it is also possible to display the repository object and language transport object for a translation object in SE63. To do so, go to the screen that enables you to call objects directly in SE63. Enter the name of the object for which you want to display the repository object and language transport object in the Object Name field, then choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Transport Object End of the navigation path. You can view the repository object and language transport object in the dialog box that is displayed.
