Creating VirtualProviders Based on 3.x InfoSourcesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

  • Direct access must be allowed for the DataSource (in DataSource maintenance).

  • This DataSource from the source system is assigned to the InfoSource.

  • You have defined and activated the transfer rules for this combination. Note the following when working with transfer routines:

    • You need to explicitly select the fields of the transfer structure that you want to use in the routine.

    • If you have created a transfer routine, you can create an inversion routine for performance optimization.

    • If you use a formula, the selections in this field cannot be transferred. We recommend creating a transfer routine instead.

Context

For compatibility reasons, a VirtualProvider that is based on a data transfer process with direct access can also be linked with an SAP source system using an InfoSource 3.x.

Procedure

  1. In the Data Warehousing Workbench under Modeling, choose the InfoProvider tree.

  2. In the context menu, choose Create VirtualProvider.

  3. As the type, choose VirtualProvider based on the data transfer process and enter your 3.x InfoSource.

  4. There is a flag here that allows you to specify whether to assign a unique source system to the VirtualProvider. Otherwise you have to select the source system in the query. The characteristic (0LOGSYS) is added to the VirtualProvider definition for this purpose.

More information: Characteristic Compounding with Source System ID.

  5. On the next screen, you can check the defined VirtualProvider and make changes if necessary before activating it.

  6. Activate direct access. In the context menu for the VirtualProvider, choose Activate Direct Access.

  7. Choose the Source Systems tab page for 3.x InfoSource. Select the source system and choose Save Assignments.

    Note

The source system assignments are local to the system and are not transported.

Results

The VirtualProvider can be used in reporting in the same way as any other InfoProvider.
