Object-based navigation, which is built on top of the standard portal navigation mechanism, provides a more flexible way of creating portal navigation links and for performing navigation.
OBN enables you to specify a generic navigation link, for example, a link to a customer details page, without having to know the exact location of the page in the portal. The page that the portal displays when a user clicks the link is determined at runtime, based on administration settings.
Backward Compatibility
OBN implemented in SAP NetWeaver 7.0 is supported in the current version. This includes the following:
Applications that use the OBN API from SAP NetWeaver 7.0 run in the current version.
Business objects that implemented a dummy alias in SAP NetWeaver 7.0, after being migrated, appear in the object-based navigation editor, where administrators can assign operations to business objects and navigation targets to the operations .
Instead of systems with a dummy alias, the current version provides a context business object that is not tied to a system. For more information, see OBN Terminology .
