Exporting KM ContentLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You have to put together a transport package to export content from a system. The system copies all selected documents and folders to the transport package and compresses them. Once the system has created the transport package, you can download it and import it into another system.

Prerequisites

If you want to transport KM content using the Change and Transport System (CTS), you must set up the enhanced CTS beforehand. You must also have created the transport paths. For more information see the documentation about non-ABAP transports in the documentation about the enhanced CTS.

Procedure

To export KM content, proceed as follows:

1. Create the Transport Package

  1. In the portal, choose Start of the navigation path Content Administration Next navigation step KM Content  Next navigation step  Export  Next navigation step  Pending Exports End of the navigation path.

  2. Choose New Transport Package. A window containing a form appears.

  3. Enter a name for the transport package.

  4. Optional: If you want to export the Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) for the objects from the source system, select the GUID parameter. The transfer of the GUIDs is necessary when transporting Web content that was created in Web Page Composer.

  5. In each of the Path 1 to Path 20 fields, you can enter a path to a file or directory containing the resources that you want to export.

Alternatively, you can choose the icon with the quick info text Browse next to the relevant field and navigate to the file or folder whose content you want to export. Select the item and choose OK .

Repeat this step until you have specified all items that you want to export.

  6. Optional: You can make filter settings for all folders to restrict the resources that are included in the transport package.

You can use the following filters:

    Filter

    Description

    Name Pattern

Comma-separated wildcard expressions representing resource names, such as *.doc , *.pdf .

    Maximum Depth

Number of directory hierarchy levels to be included, starting from the content path. The specification -1 means no restriction. The specification 0 means that only the folder is included in the export - not the content. The specification 1 includes the folder and its content in the export but excludes subfolders.

    Minimum Size

Minimum size of an item in kilobytes. The specification -1 means no restriction.

    Note

Links have a size of 0 kilobytes.

    Maximum Size

Maximum size of an item in kilobytes. The specification -1 means no restriction.

    Created After

Oldest creation date considered, with time specification if required.

    Created Before

Most recent creation date considered, with time specification if required.

    Modified After

Oldest change date considered, with time specification if required.

    Modified Before

Most recent change date considered, with time specification if required.

  7. To save the transport package, choose Save .

2. Start the Export

  1. Choose Start Export from the context menu of the transport package you just created.

  2. Use the corresponding tab page to choose the export mode required. The following modes are available:

    • CTS

If the default transport request is not correct, you can search for another transport request in CTS by choosing Browse . Once you have chosen the transport request in CTS, choose Refresh in the portal to adopt the transport request. You can also enter a comment for the transport request here.

    • File System

On the File System the system displays the directory to which the transport package with the specified name is exported. You cannot change any settings.

  3. Choose Start Export .

The system places the content of the transport package into an archive file. The archive files are located in the Archived Exports overview. You reach this overview using the detailed navigation. The complete path to the overview in the portal is Start of the navigation path Content Administration Next navigation step KM Content  Next navigation step  Export  Next navigation step  Archived Exports End of the navigation path.

This overview contains status information on transport packages that have already been exported.

3. Only in File System Mode: Download the Transport Package

If you have chosen File System mode, you must download the transport package.

  1. In the detailed navigation, choose the Archived Exports overview.

  2. In the relevant line, choose Download . Save the archive file to your hard disk using your browser download function.

The name of the archive file is composed of a technical ID and the ending .kmc : <technical ID> .kmc

If the archive file has the ending .zip when you download it, remove the .zip ending manually. The archive file must have the ending .kmc and the technical ID part of the file name may not be changed.

The export function splits extremely large transport packages into several archive files in a separate folder. The names of split archive files consist of the technical ID, the number of the archive part, and the ending .kmc : <technical ID> [_ <archive number> ].kmc

In such cases, download all of the sequential archive files with the same technical ID from the folder, as show in the example below:

406803h2-ff0c-2a10-20bb-be6743080789.kmc

406803h2-ff0c-2a10-20bb-be6743080789_1.kmc

406803h2-ff0c-2a10-20bb-be6743080789_2.kmc

Result

If you have chosen the File System mode, the transported content is now located on your hard drive in the form of an archive file. You can write this archive file to a CD or place it on a server for manual download.

If you have chosen the CTS mode, the transported content is already available in the target system in the form of an archive file.

To unpack the archive file on the target system, you must trigger an import process on the target system. More information: Importing KM Content
