Use this procedure when you want to import the content of a transport package into a target system.
When you import a transport package, the system writes the files to the same path as in the source system. You cannot change the target paths for content.
You have exported or received a transport package. More information: Exporting KM Content
1. Upload the Transport Package to the Target System
This step depends on the transport mode chosen:
If you chose the Change and Transport System (CTS) mode to export your data, the transport package is automatically uploaded for import to the target system.
If you chose the File System mode for the export, you must upload the transport package manually to the target system:
In the portal, choose Browse .
, and then chooseNavigate to the folder containing the transport package and choose the package.
Choose Upload .
2. Import the Data to the Target System
To unpack the transport package on the target system, proceed as follows:
In the portal, choose
.In the context menu of the transport package you want to import, choose Start Import .
Optional: If you want to import Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) for the objects from the source system to the target system, select the Import GUIDs parameter. The transfer of the exact GUIDs is necessary when transporting Web content that has been created in the Web Page Composer (WPC).
Choose the import mode.
The following table describes the available import modes:
Mode |
Description |
---|---|
Delete Conflicting Data First |
In this mode, all items in the transported KM folder hierarchy are deleted in the target system first. Then the content of the transport package is imported to the target system. The existing data is deleted in this mode, therefore you should be very careful when using it. If necessary, back up your target system data before starting the import. |
Add Only |
In this mode, the items in the transport package are only imported if the folders that contain them do not yet exist in the target system. The content of existing folders remains untouched in the target system. The system does not delete or overwrite any items. |
Merge Content within a Folder |
In this mode, the system compares the content of the transport package with that in the target system and imports only those items that do not yet exist in the target system. The system does not delete or overwrite any items. Make sure that you check the ACLs in the target system following the import. ACL inheritance can cause changes to the original ACLs following the import. |
Overwrite Data |
In this mode, the system overwrites the resources that exist both in the transport package and in the target system. The items that do not exist in the target system are imported, the items that exist in both the transport package and the target system are overwritten, and the rest of the items in the target system remain unchanged. The target system is considered as a master system. Therefore, folder settings such as subscriptions, time-based publishing, as well as versioning, and ACLs are not overwritten in the target system. In this mode, the system handles versioning as follows:
Note
The system transports only the current version of a versioned resource. |
To start the import, choose Start Import .
The system imports the content of the transport package to the folder in the target repository.
You can monitor the import process in the Running Imports overview. Once the import is complete, you can see it in the Archived Imports overview. This section tells you whether or not the import was successful. For more information, see Monitoring Exports and Imports .
3. Delete the Transport Package in the File System of the Source System
Once the transport has been completed, you can delete the transport package in the file system of the source system to release memory again. To do this, you require the ID of the transport package.
In the target system, choose the name of the imported transport package in the Archived Imports overview.
You can see the ID in the details of the transport package.
Make a note of this ID.
In the source system, call up the directory containing the transport packages: \usr\sap\ <SAP_System ID> \SYS\global\config\cm\expimp\export.
Find the subdirectory matching the name of the ID you noted and delete it.
