Navigation ManagerLocate this document in the navigation structure

Definition

The Navigation Manager is the tabular section of the Object-Based Navigation Editor. It has the following columns:

Operation

Contains the business object operations, by name, which can be expanded to show the targets which are associated to them. The operation name may be edited.

Label

Displays the name of the OBN navigation implementation as it appears in the UI during runtime. The label string may be edited.

Target

Displays the navigation content object (iView/page) that serves as the target of the implementation.

Role

Displays the role to which the target object belongs.

If the target object was added from Not From Portal Role section of the target selection area, this column will display a warning icon with the words "Not in Navigation".

Note that an object which is not in navigation must be assigned to a role for it to serve as an implementation of an operation.

Editing Operations and Implementations

For both operations and implementation targets, two attributes may be edited: theirs names and priorities. The names of operations and implementation may be displayed in some situations during runtime, such as in a navigation context menu, it is recommended, therefore, that they have names meaningful to the user.

Changing Priorities of Operations and Targets

To change the name of an operation or implementation:

  1. Select the row containing the name of the operation or implementation (target) and choose Properties .

The relevant properties dialog box appears displaying the name and ID, for the operation, and the name and target URL for the implementation. Only the name may be changed.

  2. After editing the name, choose OK .

  3. Choose Save to keep changes.

To change priorities:

Changing priorities in the Navigation Manager is simply a matter of selecting the desired operation or implementation and using the Up and Down buttons to move the selection higher or lower in the table.

The higher the location of an operation, the higher its priority. The same is true for implementations.

Note, however, that the priority range of an implementation is limited to the list of targets under the operation with which it is associated.

Caution

Make sure to save changes. Each change you make in the Object-Based Navigation Editor is not maintained until you choose Save at the top of the editor.

Showing Default Implementations

Choosing Show Defaults arranges the table to show only the operations and their default implementations.

Locating a Target

In a productive system you may have many roles and many targets for each role in the target selection area of the Object Based Navigation Editor. Some implementation targets may have the same name, even within a single role. To locate a target under Target Selection , click the object under the Target column and choose Locate in Target Selection .
