Recommendations for Export and ImportLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Following are explanations of what should be taken into consideration when you create or import a transport package ( epa file).

Activities
  • To identify which objects belong to which packages, use a namespace prefix for every package to ensure unique identification of the packages and use the same namespace prefix for the objects to be contained in the package.

  • To avoid overwriting an object with an older version during import, build transport packages that do not overlap. Make sure that an object is in a single package only, and not in multiple packages.

However, you can use objects from other packages. You do this by referencing another object with a delta link. At import, you must import both packages: the package containing the delta link as well as the package containing the object referenced by the delta link.

If you specified a name filter, the export supports the creation of packages that do not overlap when it processes the referenced objects.

The advantage of this method is that the packages do not overlap. The only contain objects in their own namespace. Objects of other packages are referenced with a delta link.

  • Separate custom content from imported content. Create a separate folder in the Portal Catalog for imported objects. This makes it easier for the administrator to find the content after the import and helps the administrator to assign permissions.
