Enabling Usage of a DC Archive CacheLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

When you work with a remote SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI) installation, you can use it to set up a local cache with the development component (DC) archives for your development. When you create a project or need to synchronize the used DCs - the DC archives - you can synchronize from a cache or from a central (remote) Component Build Service (CBS). Synchronizing from the CBS server is also possible if you want to make sure you get the latest archives.

If the development team is big, to improve performance it would be better to resync the archive cache centrally once over a period of time, instead of doing it several times for each developer.

With the activation of the archive cache, an additional option in the context menu of a software component (SC) becomes available. You can always choose if you need to sync from the remote CBS or from the local archive cache.

Prerequisite

  • You have already set up an archive cache.

  • A development configuration must be imported into the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.

Procedure

  1. To use the DC archive cache, enable it within the Developer Studio.

From the menu path choose Start of the navigation path Window Next navigation step Preferences  Next navigation step  Development Infrastructure  Next navigation step  Development Component Infrastructure End of the navigation path and activate the option Enable usage of DC archive cache .

  2. Open the Development Infrastructure perspective. Select the development configuration.

  3. Open the Component Properties view. On the Overview tab page choose the Configure button of the Archive Cache field.

  4. In the dialog that appears, enter the root directory of the archive cache in the following format: //<machine IP address/<share name>.

Always enter the root directory under which the folders for each development configuration are located. The wizard automatically adds the name of the folder corresponding to the selected development configuration and searches for the CONFDEF file.
