Integration Using the Advanced Adapter EngineLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The Advanced Adapter Engine is a runtime component, which hosts resource adapters for integrating applications and systems.

It can be deployed centrally, as part of the Integration Server (standard), or non-centrally on any SAP NetWeaver Application Server for Java (AS Java).

In both cases, adapters that run within the Advanced Adapter Engine can be monitored and configured centrally. The following adapters are provided:

Also provided is the Java Proxy Runtime (JPR) for communication between Java proxies and the Integration Server.

The Advanced Adapter Engine contains the Adapter Framework for messaging, queuing, security handling services, and connectivity to the Integration Server. You can use this Framework to plug in your own resource adapters or those of partners.

The central services of the Adapter Framework and most of the above mentioned adapters are implemented as Java services that can be maintained with the SAP NetWeaver Administrator. Refer to the corresponding service properties and to some typical cases where changes to some of these properties may be required.
