Managing Classification SystemsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

SAP provides Services Registry with an initial set of classification systems, so that you can start using them immediately. These classification systems have a Predefined property set. You can create and modify classification systems and values as necessary.

It is not possible to delete classifications and values after they have been assigned to service definitions.

Recommendation

Manage your classification systems in the central Services Registry and connect all providing and consuming applications to this central Services Registry. Synchronize the classification systems in your test and productive Services Registry by using the UDDI import and export function for the classification service. For more information, see Importing or Exporting Services Registry Content

For more information about the predefined classification systems, see Structuring of Services in the Registry .

Prerequisites
  • You have accessed the central Services Registry by entering an address in the following format in a browser: http://<hostname>:<port>/sr_central

  • The user account you use to manage classification systems is assigned to the SERVICES_REGISTRY_READ_WRITE and also to one of the UDDI_TierN or UDDI_Admin roles.

Note that there are limitations to the changes that users assigned to these roles can make. For example, if you are assigned only to the roles mentioned here you cannot modify predefined classification systems. When you need to have wider access to the classifications, your user needs to be assigned additional roles. For more information, see Services Registry Roles

Procedure

Creating a Classification System

  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Classifications Next navigation step New End of the navigation path.

  2. Enter the name and namespace for the classification system.

  3. Select the type of the classification system.

By selecting the type you determine the structure of the values for the new classification system. For more information about the available classification system types, see Structuring of Services in the Registry .

  4. If the values for the new classification system should not be edited after you have saved it, choose Read Only .

  5. Choose Properties to specify the development areas to which the classification system applies.

To allow service definition to be assigned to only one classification system and value, choose Categorize entities only once .

  6. Add values or participants as described below.

  7. Choose Save .

Managing Classification Values

When a classification system is of Flat list or Hierarchy type you can add, modify, and delete its values.

To add values to a classification system:

  1. Do one of the following:

    • If you are creating a new classification system, make sure its type is Flat list or Hierarchy.

    • To add values to an existing classification system, select it and choose Edit .

Note that to modify classification values of predefined classification systems you need to have certain User Management Engine roles assigned to your user account.

In both cases, make sure the Read Only option is not selected.

  2. Choose Values .

  3. Add values in the following way:

    • For a classification system of Hierarchy type, we recommend first adding the root values using the Add Root Value button.

Then for each root value you can add more values down the hierarchy using the Add Value button.

    • For a classification system of Flat list type, you can add the values using the Add Value button.

When adding a value, you can choose Disabled to select if you do not want it to be used.

To edit or detele values of an existing classification system, select the system in the list, choose Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Values End of the navigation path, and modify the values as needed.

Note

Once you classify a service definition or endpoint with a particular classification system value, you cannot delete any of the values of this classification system.

Adding Participants for Group Classification Systems

When a classification system is of Group type you can add classification systems of Flat list or Hierarchy type as participants. You can only add participants to a group classification system during its creation as described below:

  1. Choose the Participants tab.

This tab is only available when the type of the new classification system is set to Group.

  2. Use Add Participant to add classification systems.

In case one of the added participants has the Categorize Entities Once Only property set, this flag is automatically set for the group classification system.

  3. Save the group classification system.

Once you save the newly created group classification system you can no longer add or remove participants to it.
