Connecting Microsoft Excel 2007 to a BW SystemLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

To analyze data from your BW system with Microsoft Excel 2007, you need to connect MS Excel to your BW system.

Prerequisites

You have installed the current dll files for Simba OLE DB for OLAP. You can find these files and all relevant details in SAP Note 1134226.

Procedure
  1. Start Microsoft Excel 2007

    Make sure that the spreadsheet that is open is not in compatibility mode. If it is, you can only use the functionality from MS Excel 2003 and lower.

  2. In the menu, choose Data → Call External Data → From Other Sources → From Data Connection Wizard →
  3. In the Data Connection Wizard, choose Other/Advancedand press Next.
  4. Choose SAP NetWeaver BW OLE DB Provider and press Next.
  5. Enter your BW system as the data source. Use the same string as in the SAP logon.
  6. Enter a user name.
  7. Optionally, you can remove the Blank Password flag and enter a password of your choice.
  8. You can choose Test Connection to test the connection to your BW system.
  9. Select the initial catalog using input help and press Next.
  10. Select an InfoCube and press Next.
  11. Press Finish to save the connection. You can also enter a file and display name. These are then displayed in the menu under Existing Connections.
  12. Choose OK.
Result

You have connected your BW system to Microsoft Excel 2007. Your spreadsheet now contains the pivot table report on the left and the pivot table field list on the right.
