The role SAP_BC_DB_ADMIN_SDB has been provided for SAP MaxDB database administration ( Prerequisites). Its user menu contains the most important DBA functions that database administrators have to perform regularly for their DBA actions.


Specific roles have been set up for SAP liveCache technology. These are described in Authorization Concept.


Many DBA functions are part of the DBA Cockpit. Alternatively, you can call the following DBA functions using the SAP_BC_DB_ADMIN_SDB role:

DBA Planning Calendar

You can use the DBA Planning Calendar to schedule and start data and log backups, and monitoring and analysis tasks.

DBA Action Logs

In the DBA Action Logs display, you can check the status of your data and log backups, and other DBA actions, and display the logs of these actions.

MaxDB/liveCache System Overview

In complex system landscapes, access database administration functions using the MaxDB/liveCache System Overview transaction.

Database Assistant

You can use the Database Assistant to monitor your database system.

CCMS Monitoring

Among many other displays, the CCMS monitoring also includes the database alert monitor, which displays critical information memory, security, and performance as alerts.

Database Performance: Tables and Indexes

In the DB Filling/Tables and Indexes display, you can see information on the database fill level and the tables and indexes in the database.

You can determine which indexes are missing, and check the consistency between database objects and ABAP Dictionary objects.

You can display relationships between tables and archiving objects and display statistical information for each table.


To display role SAP_BC_DB_ADMIN_SDB, use the Role Maintenance transaction (transaction PFCG). More information: Application Help for role maintenance in Users and Roles.
