Use

Caution

Caution! The cluster monitor may only be used by SAP Support. It may not be used by customers unless explicitly requested by SAP Support.

The cluster monitor records the status of Knowledge Management on all nodes of the system landscape.

You can call up a report for each node. This report lists the current statuses and configuration of functional components and services belonging to Knowledge Management. If there are warnings or errors for a node, error messages and log entries are created in the report. The data collected is output in an XML file that you save and send to SAP Support when requested.

A history of recent measuring points is stored so that you can view data from previous reports.

Integration

The cluster monitor is an enhancement of the component monitor (which you should only use for single-host installations, since it is not cluster-enabled).

Note

We recommend that you also use the cluster monitor for single-host systems, since it provides more detailed information.

In order for you to use the cluster monitor, the cluster monitor service must be activated and configured.

Features

A tree containing all the nodes in the system landscape is displayed on the left-hand side of the monitor. If you select a node, reports for previous measuring points are displayed along with the current report on the right-hand side of the monitor.

SAP Support can use the report to identify incorrectly configured objects for the following technical components:

  • Global Services
  • Repository Managers
  • Repository Services
  • UI

The Miscellaneous section lists the status of the Content Management system and information on startup in a stack trace.

The report contains the following pushbuttons:

Pushbutton Description

+

You can use the + sign to expand a node.

-

You can use the - sign to collapse a node.

Collapse All

Collapses all nodes in the report.

Expand All

Expands all nodes in the report.

The following information can be displayed for an object:

  • Status
  • Configuration
  • Errors
  • Entries in log files

The status of the system or of an object is displayed using a colored symbol:

Symbol Status

 (green circle)

The object is functioning correctly.

 (yellow triangle)

Warning: The system or an object has one or more errors.

 (red square)

Error: The system or an object is defective and not available. This may be due to configuration errors or because the object could not be started for other reasons (for example, due to an unavailable remote server).

The report contains messages, log entries, and stack traces that help you to identify errors and to eliminate them.

Activities

Caution

Caution! The activities described below may only be carried out by SAP Support.

To call the cluster monitor, choose Content Administration → Portal Content Management → Content Provided by SAP → Admin Content → System Administrators → Pages → Cluster Monitor. The ID is pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/administrator/system_admin/Pages/com.sap.km.KMClusterMonitor.

Use the secondary mouse button to click the object, and choose Preview from the context menu that appears.

In the window that now opens, choose the required node of the system landscape.

You can choose from a range of previous reports or you can request a current report by clicking Request Data.

Click a report to display it. The report opens in a new window.

If the system or objects have errors or are defective, or if they could not be started, they are indeicated in the report by yellow or red symbols. Expand the affected nodes and read the error messages and log entries for the objects with errors.

If the messages indicate that the configuration is incorrect, call up configuration for the object (for example, for a repository manager) and correct the error or errors.

Note

Note that you do not always have full access for objects in the components. For example, an external Web server whose content you want to store in a Web repository may be unavailable. If this is the case, you and SAP Support are unable to eliminate the problem since you cannot access the external Web repository.

You can use the save function of your Internet browser to save the report.
