Service Definition

A service definition provides information about a Web service. You can have the following types of service definitions published in Services Registry:

  • An implemented service on a back-end or provider system. Its description can be accessed through a WSDL file located on the provider system. A service definition can have design-time features such as the minimum level of authentication that is necessary to call the methods of the service definition.

  • A service interface modeled in the ES Repository. The service interface structure and the data types it uses can be downloaded in a standard way from the ES Repository through a port-type WSDL document.

The service definition can have design-time classification data such as deployment units, process components, or business scenarios.

For more information, see Searching and Browsing Service Definitions , Managing Service Definitions , and Publishing Service Definitions Using the Services Registry .

Service Endpoint

A service endpoint is an address where the service is available. An endpoint is defined for exactly one service definition. You can have several endpoints for a service definition.

Classification System

Services Registry provides a system with which you can structure the published entities. You can assign each published service definition, service endpoint, and service group to one ore more categories. The categories are referred to as classification systems. The classifications systems delivered by SAP are available in the Services Registry after installation. Administrators can create and modify classifications systems as necessary. For more information, see Structuring of Services in the Registry , Predefined Classification Systems , and Managing Classification Systems .

System

Services Registry allows you to collect and store information about the systems on which the registered Web services reside. You can add new systems, modify system parameters, and delete systems as necessary. For more information, see Managing Physical Systems .

Service Group

The service group indicates that services are used in consuming applications. During deployment in consuming applications, the information about the service group is published to Services Registry. In Services Registry, you can find information about the service groups with which a service definition is related. You can also search, modify, and delete service groups created on AS Java. For more information, see Searching and Browsing Service Definitions .

Usage Profile

The usage profiles defined in Services Registry by an administrator assign User Management Engine roles to service definitions. Usage profiles allow the administrator to define different user-specific views on the Services Registry. For more information, see Defining Usage Profiles .
