Navigation with BEx and BW Objects in the PortalLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The various options for displaying BEx and BW objects in the portal enable you to display content from BW in a number of different ways and to combine it with other content.

Navigation with BEx and BW objects means switching from or to BEx or BW objects in the portal. Generally this means that another iView is called or that the content of a portal page changes. Transfer of information (parameters) between the various types of content in the portal is especially interesting.

Features

The following functions are available for navigation with BEx and BW objects:

Eventing in the Portal

During eventing in the portal, navigation takes place within a portal page. The information is exchanged between iViews using JavaScript. The contents of the iView where the event was triggered remains visible. A BEx Web application can be both the source and the target of an event. Authors can exchange user-defined events between BEx Web applications. Some applications in the portal (such as Manager Self Service (MSS)) send and receive their own events, which can also be sent or received from BEx Web applications. The author of a BEx Web application is responsible for implementing the JavaScript for sending and receiving. The sending of a portal event can be displayed as a link or as an extension of the context menu.

Navigation in the Portal

Navigation in the portal makes it possible to swap iViews with other iViews. The initial navigation bar and detailed navigation are adapted accordingly. Implementation is carried out using JavaScript in a BEx Web application. Multiple parameters can be passed to other iViews (like BEx Web applications or SAP transactions in SAP ERP and SAP CRM). Navigation in the portal can be displayed as a link or as an extension of the context menu.

Jumping Using the Report-Report Interface in the Portal

When jumping using the report-report interface in the portal, the jump targets are managed in BW in the Maintain Sender/Receiver Assignment  transaction (RSBBS) You can specify BEx Web applications, SAP transactions, or external targets on the Web as jump targets. The report-report interface automatically transfers all parameters that can be assigned. The jump targets in the report-report interface are displayed in the context menu for the BEx Web application.
