Installation Without TREX: Hiding the Search FieldLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The Search and Classification Engine (TREX) enables the use of search functions within Knowledge Management. You cannot use the search functions if TREX is not installed. However, the search field still appears in the portal top-level navigation. You can choose to hide this search field in the Classic Framework Page if you prefer.

Prerequisites

TREX is not installed and you do not intend to install it.

You are using the Classic Framework Page.

Procedure
  1. In the portal, choose Content Administration → Portal Content.
  2. ChoosePortal Content Management  → Portal Content  → Portal Users → Standard Portal Users → Classic Framework Page.
  3. To prevent the system from overwriting your settings during the next update, copy the Classic Framework Page.
  4. In the context menu of the (copy of the) Classic Framework Page, choose Open → Page.
  5. Select Tool Area, and then choose Open.
  6. Choose Properties → All, and then choose Modify Properties.
  7. For each of the following properties, apply the corresponding value as described in the table below:
    Property Value

    Enable Search

    false

    Enable Advanced Search

    false

  8. Save your entries.

The search engine field remains visible until the cache validity expires and you refresh the browser window. To find out how long it takes for the cache to expire, see the entry for the Cache Validity Period in the property editor. If the Cache Validity Period is not displayed, choose All for the property category.

    Caution

The cache validity period affects system performance. If you have decided to reduce the cache validity period, you must re-enter the original value as soon as the search field disappears from the portal top-level navigation.
