DB2 pureScale Feature

The DB2 pureScale Feature is an extension to the existing IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows product that allows you to scale your database solution. Multiple database servers, called DB2 members, process incoming database requests; these members operate in a clustered system and share data. The main focus of DB2 pureScale is on scalability and high availability.

Each member in a pureScale cluster runs its own DB2 instance using the DB2 server software, and has access to the complete database. The cluster caching facility (CF) in DB2 pureScale coordinates data sharing between the members and ensures concurrency control and cache coherency.

DB2 pureScale uses IBM Tivoli System Automation for Multi Platforms (SA MP) as a built-in cluster manager to detect the failure of a component, and automatically perform all necessary actions so that the impact on the overall system is as minimal as possible. For example, if the primary CF fails, the cluster manager automatically assigns the primary role to the secondary CF and redirects all requests to it.

The use of the DB2 pureScale Feature requires an additional license that you can acquire from SAP or IBM.
