Calling with Portal RolesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The portal desktop is the initial page for calling BEx and BW objects. The header area contains the initial navigation bar which includes all of the initial folders for the Portal roles assigned to a user. When a portal role is defined in the Portal Content Studio, the initial folders as such are selected using a property on the folder.

Initial access to content in the portal takes place through portal roles. When you select a folder, the system displays either an iView, a portal page in the content area or a subfolder in detailed navigation.

Features

BEx Web applications as iViews are started from portal roles or portal pages. They access the BW system directly and display the BEx content with the current data.

Portal roles are hierarchical structures with the following components:

  • Portal roles
  • Worksets
  • Portal folders
  • Portal pages
  • iViews

The structure of a portal role is highly flexible. Worksets, portal folder and portal pages are optional. A portal role can be comprised simply of iViews. The components Portal role, Worksets, Portal folders and Portal pages can operate within one another in any number of ways. Portal roles can contain other portal roles for example.

Portal roles are maintained in Portal Content Studio. More information: Using the Portal Content Studio .

You can assign portal roles to individual users by choosing User Management → Roles. More information: Assigning Portal Roles to Users and Groups .
