In the Index Admin window, you can activate thedelta index and deactivate it again.
The delta index speeds up the updating of the main index. The delta index is deactivated by default. The optimal time for activating it depends on the index size and the indexing procedure.
SAP recommends the following:
Activate the delta index after the initial indexing run. If you do not do this, the delta index grows too quickly and you have to integrate it into the main index earlier than you would wish. This means that you need twice the indexing time: Firstly to index the documents in the delta index, and then to integrate the delta index into the main index.
Monitor the size of the main index during routine operation. Activate the delta index if the main index reaches 100,000 to 1,000,000 documents or 500 MB.
You can activate the delta index for physical and logical indexes. You can define the required setting for each index individually.
The following functions are available:
Delta Index On
Activates the delta index for an index.
Delta Index Off
Deactivates the delta index for an index.
Deactivation makes sense if you want to repeat indexing for a larger quantity of documents in an existing index. In this case, as with the initial indexing run, it is quicker to index the documents directly in the main index.
Before TREX deactivates the delta index, it integrates the delta index in the main index. Depending on the size of the main index and the delta index, this can take some time.
After deactivation, the documents are indexed directly in the main index until you activate the delta index again.
