Purpose

This tutorial is part of a three-part course that teaches you how to operate the Central Performance History (CPH) (see Tutorial for the Operation of the Central Performance History). In the first part, you learn

  • How to activate the predefined settings of the CPH, so that especially important MTE classes of your monitored systems are collected in the CPH
  • How you can create and schedule a report on the basis of an existing report definition

Activating the CPH

As valid collection and reorganization schemata and their assignments to MTE classes are delivered by SAP, the following settings already exist:

  • Which MTE classes are to be collected
  • Resolution and retention period of the associated performance values

To use the CPH, it is therefore sufficient to activate these predefined settings. You do this by scheduling the CPH Jobs. To do this, follow the procedure below:

  1. Start the administration transaction of the CPH by calling transaction RZ23N.
  2. The Central Performance History screen appears. In the Status Information group box, choose Collect./Reorg. Jobs.
  3. If the jobs for data collection and reorganization are not scheduled, the system asks if you want to activate the CPH. Choose Yes to activate the CPH.
  4. Leave the screen by choosing Back ().

Scheduling Reports

As suitable predefined report definitions are delivered for the selected MTE classes, you only need to generate the reports on the basis of these report definitions. In this tutorial, you generate a report that is automatically executed once a month and is saved in the report database. Follow the procedure below:

  1. You are on the Central Performance History screen. In the Reporting group box, choose Schedule and Execute Reports.
  2. The Central Performance History Report Execution screen appears. In the Report Definition to Be Executed input field, enter the definition SAP_DIALOG_OVERVIEW. This definition contains the most important values for the dialog system.
  3. The report is to be automatically executed as a job on the first day of every month; you should therefore make the following entries:
    • Choose Execute Periodically.
    • In the Time Interval of the Report group box, select the Last radio button, and enter 1 Monthin the associated input field. The interval therefore includes the entire previous month.
    • In the Schedule Report group box, enter the date of the first day of the next month in the First Execution input field, and enter 1 Monthas the Period of the Background Processing.
  4. The report is to be stored in the relevant database. In the Report Output Target group box, select the Save in Report DB radio button. Choose two-dimensional as the output mode.
  5. You have now made all specifications that are required for the scheduling of the report as a job. Complete the scheduling by choosing Schedule (). The system now displays the report in the right subscreen in the Active Report Scheduling in the Background table.

Displaying Reports

You have now made all settings for using the CPH. The report is executed once a month, and you can view the results in the Report Browser (to do this, choose the Report Browser pushbutton on the Central Performance History screen).

Result

You have activated the CPH and used the predefined settings to schedule a report as a regular job.
