Creating a Log File Archive for SupportLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

To be able to comprehensively diagnose a database problem, technical support requires several database log files.

Use this function to pack and compress all log files that are necessary for support purposes into an archive file.

Prerequisites

You are logged on to the database as database system administrator or as a DBM operator with server authorization for accessing database files.

More information: Glossary, Server Permission

Procedure
  1. In the context menu of the database, choose Start of the navigation path Administration Tasks Next navigation step Diagnosis Packages Next navigation step Generate... End of the navigation path

  2. Select the file classes whose files you want to pack into the archive.

    Table 1: File Classes

    File Class

    Description

    backup

Log files for backups and restores

    config

    Configuration files

    dump

    Memory dumps

    hist

    Diagnosis files

    lvc

Log files for SAP liveCache technology

    protocol

    General log files

    Note

For the hist file class, you can only specify files from a specific directory by timestamp (only available if files from this class actually exist).

Per default, the archive file is generated in the run directory of the database (see Run Directory).

To specify a different file location and immediately open the archive file in the system file explorer, select Download diagnosis package immediately after generation.

    Note

If you want to download the archive file later, deselect this option. You can then later choose Start of the navigation path Administration Tasks Next navigation step Diagnosis Packages Next navigation step Generate... End of the navigation path to download the archive file.

  3. Choose Generate.
