Direct Access from a Browser

SAP provides a range of UI technologies that enable access to an SAP system from a Web browser. In the context of dynpro technology this is SAP GUI for HTML. For Web applications that do not access dynpros, you can use, for example, Business Server Pages or Web Dynpro ABAP.

Note A range of browsers are provided for different operating systems. Each browser has its own specification, and not all browsers support the existing Internet standards in the same way. Therefore if you want to use a browser to access an SAP system, it is important to be ensure that the browser you are using was released for the SAP application. SAP GUI for HTML

SAP GUI for HTML is a component that enables access from a standard Web browser to applications designed for SAP GUI (dynpro-based). The applications are usually not programmed especially as browser applications, and they can be accessed using SAP GUI for Windows / SAP GUI for Java as well as using SAP GUI for HTML SAP GUI for HTML is an application (a Service) of the SAP integrated ITS, a technology integrated in SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP enabling various types of browser-based applications.

The SAP system you are working in must be set up for HTTP access. The ICF service webgui also needs to be activated. Both are activated in system administration (see Installation und Activation).

Note

Due to the technical properties of HTML and the Web browser the functions of SAP GUI for HTML are limited compared to using a SAP GUI for Windows. Most of the transactions still work with no problems in SAP GUI for HTML. For more information, see SAP Note 314568 Information published on SAP site .

As a further service, the SAP integrated ITS also supports ITSMobile, a special programming model offering dynpro-based applications for mobile end-user devices (see Creating Mobile Applications with ITSmobile).
