Use

The portal can be accessed by different devices, such as a desktop computer or a smartphone. Device groups enable you to display different portal desktops, with a customized appearance and behavior, depending on the device being used to access the portal.

A device group is an object that contains one or more user agent definitions. A user agent is a string, sent by the browser to the server, which contains information about the device or browser that is being used to access SAP NetWeaver Portal.

The portal enables you to add user agent definitions to device groups. Every device group must be associated with a device type. The portal comes with a fixed set of predefined device types: Desktop , Smartphone , and Tablet .

By configuring device groups according to the required user agents, you ensure that the portal appearance and behavior matches the device or browser in use.

Note

Instead of using the device group mechanism, you can also configure a URL alias that displays the mobile desktop. For more information, see Defining URL Aliases .
