Features

Creating a Dashboard

You can create a dashboard in Design or Live mode by selecting objects from a set of SAP MII predefined layouts. You can configure the selected content and preview the same in Preview tab. The configured content can be visualized in Design or Live mode. The default Design mode enables you to view the dashboard content with default images. When you select Live Mode, the existing dashboard displays the real-time data of the selected content (Chart, Query, or any display template) in the layout.

For example, in Live mode, the i5Chart is rendered as a live chart. The configurations to the content, if any, are reflected immediately on the dashboard. However, in Design mode, only static images of the objects are displayed. All the real-time data is visible in Preview mode.

Your dashboard has two attributes, file name and title. The default or unsaved dashboard is displayed as New File* - Title. You can edit the title to provide the title of the browser page.

You can enter the dashboard title at any of the following stages:

  • Before selecting the layout for the dashboard

  • During creation of dashboard

  • After creating the dashboard

The dashboard name and title are independent of each other. The file name appears in the project tree and cannot be changed. The title is the browser page title and is displayed when you launch the dashboard. However, you can modify the title name. The length of the dashboard name can be upto 255 characters.

You can also select an existing template to create a dashboard. For more details on templates, see Templates.

Save

You can save the dashboard in HTML/JSP/IRPT format to any of the available SAP MII projects or in My Content project area. You can move the dashboard from My Content to other MII projects for accessibility. To save the existing dashboard in a new format, choose Save Dashboard As.

Note Note

  • The syntax to provide a placeholder for localization in an irpt page is [##Token].

  • My Content project is specific to each user.

End of the note.
Delete

You can delete the existing dashboard by choosing Delete Dashboard.

Search

You can search for the dashboard using Open Dashboard button. The search screen displays the existing dashboards that are available in all SAP MII projects along with the user-specific My Content project. You can search the dashboard by browsing the tree structure or by name, and can open the dashboard by choosing Continue.

Note Note

All search queries are case-sensitive.

End of the note.
Merge or Unmerge Cells

The Merge Cells button is visible only for layouts created using Custom Layout.

You can merge two or more adjacent horizontal or vertical cells into one cell only for custom layouts. When groups of cells are merged, the content of the upper-leftmost cell is merged, while the contents of the remaining cells are copied to the clipboard. See the section Clipboard for more details. You can swap or replace the clipboard content with the merged cell content or move to any cell in the layout.

The Merge Cells button is a toggle switch to merge and unmerge contents for the selected cells. You can also merge and unmerge empty cells.

The following conditions are applicable to merger of cells:

  • You can merge cells that form a square or a rectangle. You cannot select three cells that form an L-shape to merge into one cell. If you do so, the adjacent cell is selected to form a square or rectangular arrangement.

  • You cannot merge cells for standard layouts.

You can clear the content in the clipboard manually by choosing Clear Content. All the configuration of the objects remains unaltered when you move the content from layout to clipboard or vice versa.

You can undo the merger. Select the merged cells and choose Unmerge. The content of the merged cell is moved to the upper-leftmost cell of the split cells.

Clipboard

Any content that is moved to any cell in the dashboard can be copied to clipboard using . The clipboard objects are sorted based on the timestamp. The configuration settings of the objects are retained when moved to clipboard and vice versa. The clipboard content is available throughout the user session or until a browser refresh. The Clear button will clear all clipboard objects and close the clipboard. You can also delete individual objects from the clipboard using X button.

Undo and Redo

The Undo button reverses the previous actions and the Redo button restores the previous actions. You can undo and redo upto five actions. The Undo and Redo buttons are available on Design and Source Code tabs. On saving the created dashboard, the system remembers the undo and redo operations. The undo and redo history is available until you close and open the created dashboard or until you create a new dashboard.

Locking and Unlocking Dashboards

The dashboard is locked automatically when it is edited by any user, thus preventing other users from modifying the dashboard. You cannot delete, save, or edit the source code for the locked dashboard. Lock is released when owner either saves it, or creates a new dashboard, or closes the browser. The system displays a warning message when you access a locked dashboard and you can notify the owner of the dashboard to unlock it. Only the owner of a dashboard or the administrator can unlock a dashboard. The administrator can view all the locked dashboards and unlock the locked dashboard by any user

The tab Locked Dashboards on the screen My Dashboards displays a list of currently locked dashboards by the user. You can select a dashboard and choose Unlock to release the lock. You cannot delete, save, or edit the source code for the locked dashboard. However, you can save the dashboard with a new name using Save Dashboard As and modify the contents. If the same user is editing the same dashboard in two different systems, the system displays a warning message to unlock the dashboard before editing it in the other system.

Navigation Links

The Navigation Link allows you to create hyperlinks to the existing dashboards. The Navigation Link dialog box has three attributes: Name, Link, and Target. By default, the Link field contains the URL of the selected dashboard and the Target field is set to Open Link in Home Page. You can choose to open the navigation link in one of three ways: Open link in home page, top, or in new window. For more details, see Configuring Navigation.

You can edit the title and the URLs of the selected dashboard. You can rearrange links by moving these up or down in the Navigation dialog box.

Add to Favorites

You can add the dashboards to your Favorites under   My Dashboards   Favorites  . The yellow star indicates that your dashboard is added to Favorites. You must save your dashboard before adding it to Favorites.
