Calculation of Proportions for Individual Parameters Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can define other calculation parameters in addition to the replenishment lead time. In the kanban calculation, the system calculates the proportion of kanban containers or the proportional quantity for each parameter. With the exception of the calendar buffer (see Calculation of Calendar Buffer ) und the capacity buffer (see Capacity-Based Kanban Calculation in Case of In-House Production ), the individual proportions are first added together and then rounded. Finally, if available, the rounded value for the calendar buffer and the capacity buffer are added to the aforementioned figure.

Note Note

If you have not specified any additional calculation parameters, the system calculates the necessary kanban containers or the kanban quantity on the basis of the replenishment lead time only. See also: Formulas for Kanban Calculation

End of the note.

Integration

You can display the proportions of the individual calculation parameters at the following points:

  • In the result list and in the details of the control cycle in the transaction Check Proposal (PK08N). See also: Checking and Adopting Calculation Results

  • In the kanban graphic

  • In the tabular representation of the kanban graphic

    Note Note

The system displays the values unrounded.

    End of the note.

Prerequisites

You have carried out a kanban calculation.

Features

The following results are displayed for the individual calculation parameters:

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the replenishment lead time

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed to cover the material requirements on the basis of the replenishment lead time.

The system calculates this value on the basis of the replenishment lead time (excluding safety factor and excluding buffer). See also: Determination of Replenishment Lead Time .

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the wait time

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the wait time. The wait time is the time needed to reset the status of a kanban container from Waiting to Empty .

The wait time is a constituent of the replenishment lead time.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the refill time

Shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the refill time.

The refill time is the time needed to fill up an empty kanban container. The time period for refill starts at the time the status of the kanban container is set to Empty and ends when the status is set to In Transit . The refill time also includes the time during which the kanban container has the In Process .

The refill time is a constituent of the replenishment lead time.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the transportation time

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the transportation time. The transportation time is the time needed to transport the kanban container from the supply source (supplier) to the demand source (consumer). The transportation time starts when the status of the kanban container is set to In Transit and ends when it is set to Full .

The transportation time is a constituent of the replenishment lead time.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the pull interval

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the pull interval. The pull interval is the time interval between the transfers of requirements from the consumer to the supplier or the interval between the times of delivery by the supplier to the consumer. The pull interval is used as a buffer in the calculation of the control cycles. It increases the number of kanban containers in the control cycle. See also: Calculation of Pull Interval

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the requirement fluctuations

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the requirement fluctuations. See also: Calculation of Requirement Fluctuations

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the requirement buffer

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the requirement buffer. The requirement buffer is a buffer used in the kanban calculation to compensate for inexactitudes in the requirement information.

    Example Example

The demand source (consumer) sends preview information about his expected consumption situation to the supply source (supplier). This advance information is often inexact. This inexactitude in the requirement values can be expressed as a percentage.

    End of the example.

You can specify the requirement buffer in the calculation profile or in control cycle maintenance . The requirement buffer that you have maintained in a control cycle overrides the one you may have stipulated in the calculation profile.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the supply source buffer

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the supply source buffer. The supply source buffer is a buffer used in the kanban calculation to compensate for supply-source delivery fluctuations.

You can specify the supply source buffer in the calculation profile or in control cycle maintenance. The supply source buffer that you have maintained in a control cycle overrides the one you may have stipulated in the calculation profile.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the safety factor

The system shows the number of kanban containers or the quantity needed on the basis of the safety factor. The safety factor is used to accommodate fluctuations in requirements. It is multiplied by the result of the kanban calculation formula.

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the calendar buffer

The system shows the number of kanbans or the quantity needed to cover the material requirements on the basis of the calendar buffer.

The calendar buffer is a buffer used by the system to compensate for the missing material quantity if the supply source does not work on a day on which the demand source works, for example. The calendar buffer is also calculated on a sub-day basis if the working times of the supply source and the demand source differ. See also: Calculation of Calendar Buffer

  • Number of kanban containers or quantity on the basis of the capacity buffer

The system shows the number of kanbans or the quantity needed on the basis of the capacity buffer.

If you are using the capacity-based kanban calculation in the case of in-house production , the used containers are not set to Empty immediately, but only when the trigger point has been reached. To bridge this period with sufficient material, the system calculates the capacity buffer in addition to the trigger point, using the following formula:

Capacity buffer of trigger group = trigger point – 1

Within the framework of the capacity-based kanban calculation, the system also calculates the following values:

    • Capacity utilization (total)

The system indicates the total capacity utilization of the planning work center. The total capacity utilization results from the utilization due to set-up and production.

    • Capacity utilization (setup)

The system indicates the capacity utilization of the planning work center due to setup.

    • Capacity utilization (production)

The system indicates the capacity utilization of the planning work center due to production.

    • Trigger point

The system also calculates a new trigger point and displays it in the Next Trigger Point field. You can then adopt this value. See also: Checking and Adopting Calculation Results
