Use

If you want to add new kanban containers to a control cycle, you must first decide whether these kanbans are to be available immediately or whether they are initially to be locked. Locking the kanban containers affords the advantage that there is then enough time to label the new containers and print the kanban cards.

Prerequisites

In the Lock New Kanbans field of the Customizing activity Define Strategies for Adopting Calculation Proposals , you have specified whether or not the system is to lock the Lock New Kanbans field.

Features

You have the following options:

  • Do Not Lock New Kanbans

This option is selected as standard. If the number of kanban containers has to be increased following the kanban calculation, in the first step the system automatically unlocks the existing locked kanbans. It only creates new kanban containers if the total number of containers is insufficient. All new kanban containers are created with the status Waiting and are not locked but can be used immediately.

This option has the disadvantage that the containers may not be prepared for their use.

  • Lock New Kanbans from Kanban Calculation

With this setting, you ensure that each control cycle enhancement through the automatic kanban calculation basically leads to locked kanbans.

If you choose this setting, the system determines the existing locked kanbans as the first step of the automatic kanban calculation. These are then flagged for unlocking. The flag is set by the system depending on the unlocking sequence specified by you.

If the total number of kanbans is insufficient, the system then creates new kanban containers with the status Waiting . The kanban containers are locked. They are likewise flagged for unlocking.

With this setting, the kanban containers added manually during control cycle maintenance are not locked but can be used immediately.

  • Always Lock New Kanbans

With this setting, the system locks all newly added kanban containers, irrespective of whether they were added automatically through the kanban calculation or manually by a user in control cycle maintenance. The new kanban containers are created in the status Waiting and are locked. They are flagged for unlocking.
