Process of Finding Documents 
You can use the search function if you know document data or data from the environment of the document. The search results provide a list of documents that meet your selection criteria. The search results also check user authorizations, which can be derived from the classic authorization concept, PLM access control management, or both of these.
You can set up the document list so that it displays only the information that you require. From the document list, you can then process the relevant documents.
Process
You enter the required selection criteria.
In the Documents work center on the PLM Web UI, choose Advanced Search. You can enter selection criteria on the following tab pages:
Tab Page
Activity
Document
Classification
Full Text Search
You can also use search queries (see Defining Search Queries).
RecommendationEach document search puts a load on the TREX server for those documents that are indexed. For example, if you do not know either the document number or the document type, and you enter the special character * (or blank) in both fields, the system searches through all documents on the server.
However, you can considerably reduce the load on the system by defining your selection criteria carefully. For this reason, the system allows you to search for documents in different ways. Enter as much data as you know to obtain as short a hit list as possible.

You process the search results.
The system displays the documents that meet your selection criteria. From here, you can process the document info records and also the related original application files. For more information, see Evaluation and Processing of the Search Results.
If required, you reset or delete the search data and perform a new search.
You can delete the data in individual fields, or you can delete the search data on all tab pages by choosing the Clear pushbutton.
