You use this activity to define the characteristics of your shift such as its beginning and end, clock-in and clock-out intervals, breaks, and how the system assigns labor when a shift passes midnight.

To specify time, use the following format: hh:mm:ss. Note that you can omit seconds and enter hh:mm.

If you want to define days of the week in the shift (all Mondays, all Saturdays) differently from the default, use the Calendar Rule tab page to change the values.

If you want to change the values for one or more specific days in the shift, use the Calendar tab page. Choose the month and year you want, and view the current values, then make changes. For more information about user shifts, see Defining User Shifts.

Fields

The following tables describe fields requiring explanation:

Main

Field

Description

Current

Indicates the row that applies to the shift today. When users clock in, the system uses the current row of the shift they are assigned to. You cannot edit current or previous shifts.

If no checkmark appears, no row is valid for today. Users assigned to this shift cannot clock in unless they are assigned to a valid secondary shift.

Note Note

Only one row can be current. You cannot create a row with the same date in the Valid From column as an existing row. If dates in the Valid From and Valid To columns overlap another row, the system marks the row with the value in the Valid From column that is closest to today as current.

End of the note.

Clock-In Start

The earliest time users can clock in

Clock-In End

The latest time users can clock in

Clock-Out Start

The earliest time users can clock out

Clock-Out End

The latest time users can clock out

Labor Assignment

Specifies the day the system logs the shift time to when the shift spans midnight

Actual Day (default): logs labor time to the actual day the labor occurs

Shift Start Day: logs all labor time to the day the shift starts

Shift End Day: logs all labor time to the day the shift ends

Break

Defines break time assigned for this shift. You can define more than one break for a shift.

To specify breaks for the shift, choose the link in the Break column. On the Break Edit screen, create a row for each break in the shift.
