You use the Origin to define the data source of the data in the ILM Database Store.
To uniquely identify the source of the data on the ILM Database Store, the store uses information that was transferred using the URI of the ADK file, amongst others. As long as the system data is delivered within a network (simple scenario) it is uniquely identified. As soon as systems from different networks or, for example, systems in the cloud are connected to the store (complex scenario), an additional instance must be defined to guarantee uniqueness. You can cover this scenario by specifying an Origin. An Origin specifies the data source from where the data comes.
You have access to these two scenarios: In the more complex scenario, you have the option of determining the Origin to be used on the client yourself and informing the store. To use this scenario, you have to perform a BAdI implementation on the SRS system. This determines the Origin that is to be used. You then set up the Origin in the corresponding Customizing of the ILM Database Store. For more information, see the Installation and Configuration Guide for the ILM Database Store.
Note that you can assign the Origin only once. After that, you cannot make changes without losing data. Make a forward-looking schedule for yourself for the current and especially for the future system landscape. For example, if you plan on distributing your system landscape across multiple networks, be sure to take this into account when you define the Origin.
The Origin is a freely-defined name that specifies the data source. It defines the data source to be used for processing. You can enter the Active Origin in the report Set Current Data Source to Be Used(RILM_STOR_SET_ACTIVE_ORIGIN).
