Heijunka: Settings for the Planning Profile Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The planning profile contains all the important control parameters for sequencing. Certain of these settings are particularly advisable for the heijunka process.

Features

Procedure Profile

In the procedure profile, choose the production smoothing (production leveling or heijunka) procedure.

Maximum Mixing of Materials

If you choose the production smoothing (production leveling, or hejunka) procedure without making further settings, the planned orders are dispatched at the start of a period according to the principle of prioritized equal distribution, in order to achieve maximum mixing.

Example Example

The worklist for a period consists of four planned orders for material A and two planned orders for material B. With the heijunka procedure, you would have the following two options of dispatching the materials with the following mixing:

A A B A A B or A B A A B A

End of the example.
Dispatch Same Materials Together

If it makes more sense to dispatch the same materials together in your enterprise, you can set the Dispatch Same Materials Together indicator. The system then no longer attempts to achive maximum mixing of the orders, but instead tries to dispatch all the orders for a material together.

Equal Distribution Within a Period

If a period can be further subdivided (for example, into days or shifts), you can specify that the planned orders are not all to be dispatched at the start of the period but distributed equally over the days or shifts. A sequence is then created for the planned orders within the subperiods.

Capacity Buffers

In addition, you can specify that instead of the entire available capacity being exhausted when the orders are dispatched, buffers are to be created for additional orders. You can specify a maximum capacity utilization for this. In sequencing, planned orders can only be dispatched up to this capacity specification.

Orders that do not fit in with the available capacity are shown as not dispatched.

Planning Profile
Defining the Planning Period

In the planning profile, you specify the planning period within which the sequence for the planned orders is created. You can specify the period in shifts or days or define a PPC planning calendar with which you can define flexible period lengths for planning.

Aligning Periods on the Current Date

For planning with heijunka, stable scheduling of the periods is important. For this reason, you can specify that the periods and the determination of the short and medium-term horizons are to be aligned on the current date and not on the period of examination chosen by the user on the initial screen of the sequence planning board.

Fixing of the Planning

With the Repeated Automatic Dispatching Active or Repeated Dispatching Not Active indicators, as well as the number of fixed planning periods and specification of a medium-term planning horizon, you can subdivide the planning in the sequence planning board into a manual, an automatic, and an unplanned area:

  • With the medium-term planning horizon, you can specify the point in time as of which the system does not dispatch any more orders (unplanned area).

  • Up to the medium-term planning horizon, orders are dispatched by the system.

    • If you set the Repeated Dispatching Active indicator, all orders are dispatched up to the medium-term horizon (automatic area).

    • If you set the Repeated Dispatching Not Active indicator, the periods in the past and the current period are fixed. The system does not dispatch any more orders in these periods. You can also specify a number of further periods that are to be fixed. You can thus only process the sequence of the planned orders in the fixed area manually (manual area).

Selection of Planning Profiles

In Customizing, you can define a default profile for a plant that is to be used by the system for sequencing.

If you wish to carry out planning using different settings, you can change the default profile on the initial screen for sequencing.

If your own procedure profiles have been defined for the line segments in line design, the procedure profiles of the line segment take precedence over that of the planning profile.
