Kanban with Integration of MRP Locate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

In this process, the storage location assigned to the production supply area is not excluded from MRP.

If a material is procured with integration of MRP, the following settings have to be made:

  • A valid MRP type must be maintained for the material. This means, the setting “ND” (no planning) is not allowed.

  • All other control parameters necessary for MRP must be maintained for the material.

  • For replenishment strategies with cost collectors (in-house production with run schedule quantities, manual Kanban), you must enter a repetitive manufacturing profile on the MRP data screen. In the standard SAP system, a profile that is specially designed for Kanban is available. That is to say, a cost collector without a run schedule header is generated with this profile.

Features

In this process, the planning of the total production quantity or procurement quantities for a certain period are controlled via MRP and the replenishment elements are generated by the MRP run. Within the framework of in-house production, both repetitive manufacturing and production order management can be used to plan the production quantities per period. Within the framework of external procurement, all the usual replenishment elements are available. However, the replenishment elements generated via MRP are not intended to trigger production or replenishment directly. Instead, they serve as a preview for the supply source. The material flow itself and actual production are controlled and triggered by setting the kanbans to "Full" and "Empty". In the process, confirmations and goods receipts are posted with without reference to the kanban and can thus relate to daily quantities for example.

In this process, the following applies to materials with BOMs:

Components that are used in kanban materials can be planned using all MRP procedures. However, organizationally it must be ensured that the supply source does not produce the material for the replenishment element generated by MRP in advance, but waits until the kanban calls for production.

Note Note

In the process with integration of MRP, the system directly generates preview data. For this reason, this process is particularly suitable for replenishment with run schedule quantities (repetitive manufacturing) and scheduling agreement schedule lines.

End of the note.
