Use

In classic Kanban, the kanban signal status "Empty" is set after the kanban has been completely emptied by the production operator (via bar code, for example). Prior to setting to "Empty", the system is not informed which quantity is still in the kanban.

With the quantity signal, the kanban signal is not triggered by the production operator changing the status. Instead, the production operator (or a PDC system) enters the quantities withdrawn in each case in the system directly. The system automatically sets the kanban to "Empty" as soon as the kanban quantity is reached.

Integration

The full Kanban functionality is available in the case of "Kanban with Quantity Signal" too.

Prerequisites

Ther are no further prerequisites for "Kanban wiith Quantity Signal".

Features

For "Kanban with Quantity Signal", a separate function is available for entering the withdrawal quantity. See also: Trigger Quantity Signal

The actual quantity of the kanban is reduced by the withdrawal quantity entered at the time of each posting. The system recognizes when the actual quantity of a kanban is zero and automatically sets the kanban to "Empty". The exact process is as follows:

The first time a quantity is booked out of a kanban, the system sets the status to "In Use". Once the kanban is completely empty, the status is set to "Empty" and replenishment is triggered. If the withdrawal quantity exceeds the remaining quantity of this kanban, the system reduces the actual quantity of the next kanban, which is then set to "In Use".

The sequence of the kanbans from which withdrawal takes place is determined as follows:

  • First, kanbans that have the status "In Use" are completely emptied.

  • Then the kanban with the status "Full" that has had this status the longest is selected.

In contrast to the process "without quantity signal", in this case the actual quantity of the kanban is of functional significance.

The setting of the kanban status to "Full" is effected quite normally via the kanban signal.

Caution Caution

In the case of the quantity signal, only the actual quantity of the kanban is updated - no stock posting is carried out. The stock postings are made when the status is changed to "Empty".

End of the caution.

Caution Caution

For technical reasons, it is not possible to create several production orders for several kanbans at the same time. The system does not allow such an entry.

Change your entry or the business process in such a way that just one kanban is generated. For example, make several entries with a smaller quantity in each case.

If this is not possible, change your replenishment strategy from production orders to planned orders/run schedule quantities.

End of the caution.
