Document management comprises a wide range of functions for managing documents that may be stored both in your SAP System and external systems. In addition, document management at SAP allows you to coordinate document processing, making it one of the central functions within Logistics.
As with document management on SAP GUI, you can create, change, and display the details for a document info record (DIR) on the Web user interface (Web UI) for SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM).
Note
Document on Web UI is based on the document management (DM) back-end system. However, not all functions that are available for DM on SAP GUI are also available for DM on PLM Web UI.
For an overview of how the features of Document on the Web UI and SAP GUI-based document management differ from each other, see SAP Note 1819440.
The following features are available for a document on the Web UI, but not in document management on SAP GUI:
In addition to object-specific views, you can display all object links for a DIR in a generic view.
Depending on Customizing, you can display a thumbnail of a linked DIR on other screens.
Example
Depending on Customizing, you can display a thumbnail of a linked DIR from the Change Material screen on the Web UI.
You can launch the Object Navigator application from the Change Document and Display Document screens.
You can check the consistency of input data before saving it.
You can use the Document Browser application to assign a leading object and change the layout of a screen.
You can display original viewable files directly in the viewer delivered by SAP.
You can create and save markups in the viewable file once you are in the viewer.
Note
On the Web UI for SAP PLM, you can attach an original document to a DIR only if the Use KPro checkbox is set in Customizing.
