You can create and change routings directly in SAP ME and then transfer this data to ERP. In the ERP system, routings are then created and updated automatically. You can use these routings in the production order or in repetitive manufacturing in the planned order.

The function enables you to create the routing in SAP ME with the details required for production and only transfer to ERP the operations that are relevant to planning, inventory management, and cost accounting.

The routings contain the information as to which original routing in SAP ME they refer. This information is also referenced in the production order and the planned order and passed on to SAP ME when these documents are sent. SAP ME can use the reference information in the IDoc to determine the assigned routing.

Process

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Integration of ME Routings

  1. You create a new routing in SAP ME.

The routing is sent to the ERP system. Only the steps of the ME routing marked as reporting steps are transferred.

  2. In ERP a new routing is created automatically with the group counter 1. The routing contains all the data of the ME routing.

To make it clear that the routing has been generated from an ME routing, the following IDs of the SAP ME routing are displayed in the maintenance transactions of the routing:

    • Site

    • Routing

    • Version

    • Operation

    • Step ID

To be able to display these IDs, the routing header details, the routing overview, the operation details, and the operation overview in the routing have been extended accordingly.

  3. If you change the routing in SAP ME and create a version 2 there, this data is also transferred to the ERP system.

In ERP, in the same routing, an alternative routing with the group counter 2 is created. If there is already a routing in ERP with group counter 2, the next available group counter is used.

If you change the routing in SAP ME without generating a new version, the existing routing in ERP is also updated without a new routing alternative with a higher group counter being created.

    Note Note

If there are already 99 alternative routings for a routing, you have to archive the older alternatives to make group counters available again.

    End of the note.
  4. You create a production order. When you create a production order, the routing is referenced in the order as before. The ME IDs are displayed in the order header on the Master Data tab and in the operation on the Reference Data tab.

  5. You release the production order. The system transfers the order data to the MES using IDoc LOIPRO03 according to the filter criteria you set in the DRF. For more information, see Production Order Integration.

  6. If within repetitive manufacturing you integrate planned orders with SAP ME, the appropriate routing for the planned order is determined when the IDoc LOIPLO02 is sent and its ME reference data is written to the IDoc (see Planned Order Integration).

    Note Note

If you have specified the group counter in addition to the group number in the production version of the material that is to be produced, you must adjust the group counter if a new version of the ME routing has been transferred to ERP.

    End of the note.

For more information about routing determination when distributing planned orders, see Earmark Planned Orders for Distribution.

More Information

You can use the Business Add-In CO_MES_INT_ROUTING_INBOUND to influence the attributes of the routing that is to be created or to supplement it with your own data. The BAdI is called from an SAP ME system when routings are replicated. You can continue to use the BAdI if you want to implement a system behavior that differs from the logic described above when you create and change routings.
