Use

Production resources/tools (PRTs) are mobile operating facilities used in production or plant maintenance. The system distinguishes between the following types of production resource/tool on the basis of their attributes and business function:

  • Materials considered in materials management, for example, in inventory management, material requirements planning, and procurement

  • Equipment such as measuring devices or high-quality tools requiring preventive maintenance

  • Documents such as drawings or programs for which document management functions are used

  • Other PRTs (with a PRT master record) requiring less maintenance

In the following objects, you can assign PRTs to operations and phases:

  • Task lists (including standard networks and recipes)

  • Production orders and maintenance orders

  • Networks

If a PRT is required for inspections during production, you can assign it to the relevant inspection characteristic in the task list as test equipment.

Integration

Using the classification system, you can group PRTs according to your own criteria, making it easier to search for the PRTs.

You can also link PRTs to document info records to refer to additional information such as a design drawing.

Prerequisites

The standard system contains the special material type FHMI for production resources/tools. The standard system is configured such that the user department Production Resources/Tools appears only for materials of this material type. However, your system administrator can change this in Customizing for the Material Master by choosing   BasicSettings   MaterialTypes   Define Attributes of Material Types.

Since PRT data is created at plant level, you are required to specify a plant in the Organizational Levels dialog box to access the data screen for this user department.

Activities

In the material master record of a PRT, you specify data required by PRT management. For information on PRT management, see Production Resources/Tools in the SAP library documentation Routings (PP-BD-RTG) .
