Use

If a production line is a supplier of kanban parts, the requirement on this production line is generated by the kanban signal. The kanban signal generates either a run schedule quantity or manual kanbans as replenishment elements. (For more information, refer to the document, PP Kanban, sections Replenishment Using Run Schedule Quantities and Replenishment Using Manual Kanban .)

The production of the kanban materials is confirmed upon completion using the function described here.

Integration

This function is integrated in both the Repetitive Manufacturing and Kanban menus.

Prerequisites

To be able to confirm production of a material procured via kanban, you must maintain the master data (such as the control cycle and the production supply area). For more information, see also Master Data for Kanban .

Features

Because the normal confirmation function in Repetitive Manufacturing (REM) does not result in the reduction of the run schedule quantities generated via kanban, there is a special confirmation function for this purpose in REM.

The goods receipt confirmation function for kanban corresponds to the standard function for the entry of "actual" data in Repetitive Manufacturing:

  • The goods receipt is posted for the confirmed material.

  • The current BOM is exploded.

  • The components determined are backflushed.

  • The production plan quantities are reduced. That is to say, the planned orders are reduced according to the logic predefined in Customizing for Repetitive Manufacturing.

  • The "actual" costs are posted to the product cost collector.

If kanban is carried out with the integration of material requirements planning, the system confirms completion of and reduces the run schedule quantities with reference to the kanban.

You can use Kanban with reporting points. In this case, confirmation of a kanban container results in a milestone confirmation. For more information, refer to the documentation PP Kanban under Replenishment Strategy with Reporting Points .
