Component documentationViewer for Displaying Original Application Files on PLM Web UI Locate this document in the navigation structure

The SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Viewer is embedded in the PLM Web UI and enables you to view your products in the PLM Web UI environment. The viewer works on Windows operating systems and can display the digital original application files for a document info record. The integration of the viewer provides the following features:

  • You can access technical drawings and 3D viewable files.

  • You can create thumbnails, which you can use to preview the document and also in the document search. In the list of search results, you can activate the thumbnail preview of the originals.

  • You can use different functions for navigation, such as rotate, zoom, and center. You can then use redlining functions to edit objects, save them, or print them.

You can use SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Generator to generate viewable files, and you can use SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Viewer to view the originals. For more information, see SAP Library for SAP 3D Visual Enterprise on SAP Help Portal at http://help.sap.com/ve.

Implementation Considerations

You must make the following settings in Customizing for Document Management for the viewer in the SAP system:

  •   Control Data   Define Document Types

The document type of the document info record that manages the original application file must use the Knowledge Provider (KPro) to check in original application files to predefined storage systems. You make this setting on the detail screen for the document type by selecting the Use KPro checkbox.

    Note Note

You can use the viewer and redlining functions only if the document type is defined to allow the check-in of original application files using the Knowledge Provider. You do not have to check in the original application file into a storage category of the Knowledge Provider to display it. The file can also be in a logical directory within the local network. This type of local storage is not always accessible to all front-end computers, whereas the Knowledge Provider is accessible to all front-end computers. For document management on the PLM Web UI, you must check in all original application files using the Knowledge Provider.

    End of the note.
  •   General Data   Define Workstation Application

    The following steps are necessary:

    • Assign the correct application (for example, Direct Model) for the file format you want to display (for example *.jt).

On the detail screen, maintain all data that is supported for processing original application files with the workstation application.

    • Select the navigation step Define workstation application in network and enter the call for the viewer.

      Note Note

You can use this call to determine, for example, whether you want to display 2D or 3D formats. You make the call for saving the files in 3D format (such as *.rh for Direct Model) with a workstation application as follows:

      %VIEWER-CONTROL% %SAPPROVIS%

For more information about calling the application, see the documentation of the Customizing activity Define Workstation Application.

      End of the note.
  • Set Up Workstation Application for Thumbnails (Images)

To display thumbnails, you must make the required settings in this Customizing activity. As a prerequisite, you have defined the required workstation applications and the document types.

Integration

You can view the product data with the integrated viewer in the following processing situations:
