You use this activity to place a hold on a component and associated inventory ID records because of problems the component is causing as the product is being produced on the shop floor. Once the issue is resolved with the component, the component and associated records can be released to finish the production process.

Prerequisites

You have created material records in Material Maintenance (see Material Maintenance).

Fields

The following tables describe fields requiring explanation:

Component

Corresponds to the Material field in Material Maintenance

Assembly Data Type

The data type assigned to the component is displayed containing the field for the level you want to place on hold.

Component Can Be Received

Selected: Allows users to receive the same component even when the component and associated records are on hold.

Deselected: Floor stock receipt for this component is not allowed regardless of the values in the Assembly Data Type fields.

Component Can Be Consumed

Selected: Allows operators to record assembly consumption for components that are on hold.

Deselected: If the Inventory ID field of the Assembly Data Type contains a value, consumption of this inventory ID is not allowed. If the Inventory ID field is empty, none of the inventory IDs of the component is allowed for consumption.

Procedure

To place a component on hold, do the following:

  1. On the Component Hold/Release screen, enter the material and version of the component you need to place on hold.

  2. Choose Create Hold.

  3. Enter the required data.

  4. Hold the component and view all holds in the site for the component and version entered in the Component and Version fields. If the Version field is blank, the system displays all versions of the component that are on hold. If both fields are blank, it displays all components that are on hold in the site.
