Each function in the SAP system has a transaction code associated with it. A transaction code consists of letters, numbers, or both. You enter transaction codes in the command field.

You use a transaction code to go to any task in an SAP application faster. By entering a transaction code instead of using the menu, you go to a task and start the function in a single step.

Procedure

Displaying the Command Field

On the standard toolbar you can:

  • Display the command field by choosing the arrow to the left of the Save icon.

  • Hide the command field by choosing the arrow to the right of the command field.

Finding the Transaction Code for the Task You Want to Start

To find a transaction code for a certain task, place the cursor on the appropriate menu item in the SAP Easy Access menu and perform one of the following:

  • Choose   Extras   Technical Details  .

    A dialog box, displaying the details for the selected menu item, appears.

  • Choose   Extras   Settings   Display Technical Name  .

    After refreshing the menu, the system displays the transaction codes of all items from the menu.

Finding the Transaction Code for the Current Task

To find the transaction code for the current task, perform one of the following:

  • Choose the arrow in the first status field.

    The transaction code appears, along with other system information.

  • From the menu bar, choose System -> Status.

    The System: Status dialog screen appears. You can find the transaction code for the current task in the Repository Data frame.

Entering a Transaction Code
  1. In the command field, enter /n followed by a transaction code.

    This will end the current task.

    If you do not want to end your current task, you can create a new session.

  2. Choose Enter.

    The initial screen of the new task appears.

Choosing a Transaction Code from the History List
  1. Choose the dropdown box to the right of the command field.

    The history list appears. It displays the transaction codes of all transactions you have accessed since you logged on.

  2. Choose the desired transaction code and choose Enter.

    The initial screen of the new task appears.
